Not much that I can add to this wonderful article. It's a great testimony to the decades-long commitment that keepers have for their animals. Few keepers are lucky enough to be able to spend so long working in a zoo - financial pressures, physical ailments, and family needs, to say nothing of burnout, take their toll. That being said, it is remarkable and refreshing to see a keeper leave their job after almost forty years as in love with it as they were on their first day.
Happy retirement, Mr. Kessler!
